Movie Review: Suicide Squad

In 2016, there were many anticipated movies that came out, and Suicide Squad was one of them. Since I am a die-hard Harry Potter fan, I spent my one day a year at my local movie theater watching Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I am also a fan of DC Comics, but I am very happy that I did not waste my money on a ticket to see this movie. I am very late to seeing this movie though because I just saw it a couple nights ago.

IMDB's Summary:
"A secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous incarcerated super-villains to form a defensive task force. Their first mission: save the world from the apocalypse." -IMDB

My Summary:
This supposedly thrilling, action-filled movie fails all of the big expectations that were brought upon it by professional reviewers and popular websites looking to make a few easy bucks. Starring big time actors Will Smith as Deadshot, a talented hit man that has a secret soft spot for his daughter, and Jared Leto as the Joker, the classic and popular villain who terrorizes Gotham City, the movie is about a team of villains hired by the United States government to recover and save an important person from the government. The team also includes Harley Quinn, who is played by Margot Robbie, Captain Boomerang, who is played by Jai Courtney, Killer Croc, who is played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbjae, Kantana, who is played by Karen Fukuhara, and the Diablo, who is played by Jay Henandez. This group forms a friendship with each other and learns to fight together when it comes down to it. At the end, the action finally begins and the team of misfit villains defeat the Enchantress and her brother. They end up saving the day and going back to prison with a decrease in years.

My Thoughts on the Movie:
Now, was Suicide Squad a good or bad movie? I think it wasn't good but not a terrible one. I would give it 2/5 stars because I liked how the characters' backstories were told so that the audience could get a better understanding of the main characters. I also liked the flashbacks, which help give a better understanding of what caused them to be in the positions they were in at that moment.
There were many things that I did not like about Suicide Squad. One of them was the wardrobe for the women's characters. For Harley Quinn, she kicked butt, had a carefree attitude, and was an awesome character but her wardrobe was very revealing. There is no need for a woman's clothing to reveal their butt or breasts. A woman can kick butt and look stunning in modest clothing that covers everything up, but Hollywood thinks that in the movie industry, women need to show off their bodies for approval. Even as Harley Quinn is changing into her outfit in the movie, the men had leered at her body and she was oblivious to this until she turned her head. Also, the Enchantress was made to wear a very revealing outfit that only left her chest and private areas covered. She was also a very powerful female character that had to show off her body due to Hollywood's standards. They could have been easily covered up a little bit more by adding a few extra feet of fabric to their outfits.
Also, the only action in the movie happened at the very end. There was also no character development or change to the characters' behaviors. They were always meant to be villains and not to be good and that is what the movie showed. I knew that no villain, unless if won over, could turn over to be a hero.
Even though this movie had thrown in Will Smith and a couple of other talented actors, it did no justice to the comics and the characters or at least tried to make it enjoyable to watch without wanting to yawn every five minutes. I really wish that this movie lived up to the hype but it did not. If you are looking for a movie to watch by yourself or with a couple of friends, choose another movie like The Martian(science fiction) or any of the regular Marvel movies, if you are looking for something in the super hero genre.
Tell me your thoughts on this movie and if you would recommend this to anyone.
