Book Review: All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis | The Hunger Games's Silent Friend Has Come

Image
Speth Jime is anxious to deliver her Last Day speech and celebrate her transition into adulthood. The moment she turns fifteen, Speth must pay for every word she speaks, for every nod, for every scream and even every gesture of affection. She’s been raised to know the consequences of falling into debt, and can’t begin to imagine the pain of having her eyes shocked for speaking words that she’s unable to afford. But when Speth’s friend Beecher commits suicide rather than work off his family’s crippling debt, she can’t express her shock and dismay without breaking her Last Day contract and sending her family into Collection. Rather than read her speech—rather than say anything at all—she closes her mouth and vows never to speak again, sparking a movement that threatens to destroy her, her family and the entire city around them. Discussion: " I was an agitator. I was a fool. I was brilliantly devious. I was a mental deficient. I was an unpatriotic threat to the nation. I was a ...

Five Book Bloggers I Love

Image
In my years of being too emotionally attached to my laptop, I have also found that I have become too emotionally attached to some blogs. Some may say this is a problem, but I see this as an opportunity to give praise to some of my favorites. Also, I celebrated my first year of blogging last April, and I am so excited to share five blogs that I hate because they do not get enough praise. Again, before I jump into this blog post, I want everyone to know I really love the blogs I am listing here. I am only doing this as a satire of the trend where a blogger or vlogger trashes others in hopes of getting more views. I want to show that we should be nice to all creators no matter what . Instead of just sitting on my couch and watching all the worst episodes of Pok é mon , let's get to the bloggers I love and start spilling the tea! - Five Bloggers I L ove 😻 : 1. Lili from Lili's Blissful Pages Seriously, Lili, I have a message for you! I go through phases with a lot of ...

Book Review: Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli | One Gay Relationship Takes the World by Surprise

Image
Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised. With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met. Discussion: " Why is straight the default? Everyone should have to declare one way or anothe...

Mini Book Reviews: Gudetama | Stress and Why Books Can Handle It So Much Better Than Mortal Humans

Hi everyone! Has it been a while for you since I've posted? Probably not, but that is how I feel today. After a full day of school, I feel so tired. I am not tired so much in the way that I need to fall asleep in the next minute with drool flowing from my open mouth, but I am tired from feeling stressed out all day. I have been wondering about my final grade for my English test; I have put myself on a reading schedule due to not having read anything for the last two weeks because SCHOOL IS MY LIFE*; I have studied for tests throughout the past two weeks as well. Also, finals is this week, and I am freaking out. There have been many things stressing me, and I am so glad that blogging is not one of them. After a long time of sitting in my carpool's car, I finally arrived home to find a package sitting against my house door. Little did I know that the two books that I requested so long ago would be the ones to pick me up after a stressful couple of weeks. * Can you relat...
